Raise your spoons, cereal lovers, National Cereal Day in the U.S. is almost here!
Here’s to the cereals that spark fond memories of Saturday mornings, and the ones that make us miss our childhood.
Although some of these have been discontinued over the years, they still hold a special place in our cereal-loving hearts.
1. Trix – with Fruit Shapes
Trix Cereal has been around for more than 60 years, but it wasn’t until the early 90’s when it introduced its fan-favorite fruit shapes.
The sweet new makeover rolled out in 1991 with red raspberry clusters, yellow lemon wedges, purple grape clusters and orange balls.
The fruity cereal was discontinued in 2006, but the iconic shapes returned to store shelves in 2018.

2. Strawberry Shortcake – It’s “Berry” Delicious
Strawberry Shortcake was first developed by American Greetings in 1977. Before making her cereal debut in 1981, Strawberry Shortcake appeared on greeting cards, bedding, pajamas, gift-wrap and even party hats.

She became so popular that she was introduced immediately alongside three friends – Blueberry Muffin, Huckleberry Pie and Apple Dumpling.

But she wasn’t around for long. Strawberry Shortcake was discontinued in 1985.
3. Sprinkle Spangles – A Kid’s Dream Come True!
Sprinkle Spangles was “a kid’s dream come true!” when it came out in 1993 with its delicious sugar cookie flavor and colorful sprinkles. It became so popular, in fact, that it has become one of our most requested cereals to bring back.

Other names in the running for this cereal included Sprinkle Dazzlers, Sprinkle ‘Splosion, Sprinklicious, and Sprinkle Speckles.
And don’t forget about the Sprinkle Genie, the cereal’s spokes-character who granted wishes for a sprinkled breakfast. The Sprinkle Genie mascot was voiced by popular comedian Dom DeLuise who’d say, “You wish it, I dish it.”
Sprinkle Spangles was discontinued in 1994.

4. Cinnamon Toast Crunch – The Taste You Can See!
It’s hard to imagine growing up without the sweet cinnamon flavor of Cinnamon Toast Crunch for breakfast.
The cereal was first introduced in 1983 with the slogan “Tastes like Cinnamon Toast,” but it wasn’t until 1992 when the cinnamon swirls were added to the cereal. And in 1995 it was given the slogan: “The taste you can see!”

Advertisements for Hidden Treasures featured H.T., an inquisitive robot who used his scientific gifts to determine which pillows contained the fruity filling. It was up to the kids to stop him from spoiling the fruity surprises!
Hidden Treasures was available from 1993 to 1995.
